The borough of Delfshaven in Rotterdam approached Schildersbedrijf N&F Hijnen to come up with an interesting approach to liven up a block derelict buildings that were slated for possible demolition. Their solution? Spray on a 2 micron layer of vivid blue latex paint. The result? It turned a stretch of the most unnoticed buildings in the city into the most photographed ones.

Construction at the world’s largest skyscraper continues at a steady pace. The tower has now reached 160 stories and is at a height of 611m (2004 feet). The cladding around the tower is up to around the 100th story. When completed in June 2009, the mega skyscraper is expected to reach a height of between 800-950m (2625-3117 feet). No, I’m not talking about gas stations here. A young couple in Mexico grew tired of living in a conventional home, and wanted to move into something more “natural”. They commissioned Senosiain Arquitectos to build them their new home, and the end result was a gigantic Nautilus. The special house was put together using ferrocement construction, a technique involving a frame of steel-reinforced chicken wire with a special two-inch-thick composite of concrete spread over it. The end result a unique structure that’s earthquake-proof and requires no maintenance. The cost was reportedly around €160.000. Last we heard, the constant sound of the ocean was keeping everybody up all night.
